There are four movement factors in Fly: Movement, Elevation, Rotation, and Altitude Control. Here's how to control them in both the Quest and Apple Vision Pro (AVP) headsets.
Quest Controls
AVP controls
Movement: Translating the aircraft in space can either be controlled in three ways: Head, Left Joystick, or Combined.
- Head: Move your body around your playspace to control the craft. The further you are towards the outside of the ring, the faster you will go. If you are in the center ring, you will stop moving.
(A neutral position with the yellow dot in the middle will keep you idle; perfect for observing your surroundings)
(If you take a step backward, you'll see the dot move to the rear of the space in between the two rings. You'll then start moving backward in space. Whichever direction you move is the direction the dot will move.)
- Left Joystick: The left joystick will move you forward, backward, and strafe left and right.
- Combined: Both body/head movement and joystick movement will both move you.
- Pinch-Drag (AVP only): Pinch and drag with your left hand to rotate the craft.
Elevation: Moving the craft up and down can be achieved by using Hand Up/Squat, Right Joystick, or combined.
- Hands Up/Squat: Raise your hands (or one hand) to increased your elevation. Squat to decrease it.
- R-Joystick: The right hand joystick will move you up and down by pressing up and down respectively.
- Combined: Both Hands Up/Squat and controller will work.
- Pinch-Drag (AVP only): Pinch and drag with your right hand to change elevation of the craft.
Rotation: Controls how the craft turns. You can either use snap (rotates 30 degrees per turn), or smooth turning (smooth turning is the only turning option on Apple Vision Pro).
AVP Only:
Pause: Pinch with both hands to access pause menu.
Quit: Press both the Digital Crown and the top button to quit the application. You are free to leave Fly suspended as well.
Combined controls omitted for AVP. Smooth turning is also not enabled.
