There are some game changing (literally) options in the menus that can really alter your experience of VZfit. From player perspective to Street View, there are some powerful options in there that every VZfit user should be aware of. So let's dive in and learn about these great tools.
From in game, press the pause button and head over to Options. From here you have 6 tabbed options on top: Game, HUD, VR, Multi, GPS and Audio. Go ahead and click on VR and you'll see the different Player View options available to you; Country, City and Slideshow.
Rendering Type | Motion Feel | Distortion | Depth Mapping |
Normal (no City or Slideshow enabled) | High | Average | No |
City | High | Average | Images Mapped to City Topography |
Slideshow | Low | None | No |
Here you see the three options grouped within the VR options tab: Rider View, Street View and VR Type. Let's go over these in some detail.
Rider View:
1st Person: Switching from 1st Person to 3rd Person will change your perspective in game. In 1st Person your view is that of the rider's. This is a perspective to simulate that of actually riding an Exerboard or bike as you'll be looking through the eyes of your avatar.
3rd Person: In 3rd Person the camera will pull back behind your avatar/character giving you the ability to see your character's outfit from a heightened position. This is a good option for those with some motion sensitivity as the movement from the road is not as close to you. Street View:
These options: County, City and Comfort will substantially change how the Google Street View images are rendered around you.
Country: As the name would suggest, Country view is best for rides in open country areas. You'll see the images in their most original form with the road and all other aspects of the environment minimally augmented.
City View: City view is designed for, yep you guessed it, city riding. It will replace the road with a flat virtual road to both declutter and help with visual oddities in the city. It also uses map information to project images onto solid buildings the correct distance from the street and lightens the sky background to clearly separate it from the solid moving foreground.
Comfort View is designed to help those with VR sensitivity. It changes the rider view to 3rd person, the street view to city, and the VR type to monoscopic (covered later). We have a detailed article on Comfort View in the article Comfort Mode in VZfit.
VR Type:
Complex: Using depth data provided by Google's images we create the 3D environment around you. The data provided by Google is not perfect, but in many cases can provide the closest experience to actually being in the location.
Simple: In this mode, we project the Google image onto a pre-made sphere around you that is cut off at the height of the road so that you have a solid surface to ride on. This helps to minimize distortion at the expense of having objects closer to the road not actually feeling like they are near you.
